Rockville Hills Regional Park participates in the California Wood Duck Program. Nest boxes provided for wood ducks have helped increase their waning population. In 2017, Rockville had 10 nesting boxes with a total of 40 ducklings. The boxes are built and monitored by volunteers.
Nests for Canada Geese are another volunteer project supporting breeding birds at Rockville. The smaller floats each have a tire filled with hay, and the floats are tethered in place away from the shore.
A White-breasted Nuthatch found some brightly-colored yarn to help in nest-building.
This nest is the biggest I've ever seen. It was about 2.5 feet by 3 feet. I certainly wonder what kind of bird made it. It was old when I first saw it, and then I watched as it slid farther and farther down the branches until it eventually dropped out of the tree.

In the late Fall, I noticed this nest that had probably been in this willow by the pond since Spring.
The inside of the nest was coated with mud.
An owl nesting box found its way onto the Green Valley Trail.
